How it runs

Process

Seven stages. You know what is happening at every one, and you know exactly what we need from you before it holds anything up.

Stage 01

Brief and discovery

Fifteen minutes on the phone or a filled-in form. What the site is for, who it is for, what you want someone to do when they land on it, and what is currently getting in the way. We look at your competitors before we quote, not after.

We need: your goals, rough page list
Stage 02

Fixed quote and scope

A written scope and a fixed price within one business day. It names the pages, the integrations, what you supply, what we supply, the timeline and the payment schedule. If we think you are asking for more than you need, we say so in the quote.

You need: approval and a deposit
Stage 03

Design

Either we adapt one of the industry designs to your brand, or we design from scratch. You see the home page first, because once the home page is right the rest follows quickly. Two rounds of revision are standard.

We need: logo, brand colours, photos
Stage 04

Build

Front end, back end, forms, integrations, payments. Everything on a staging link you can open at any time and comment on. Nothing is hidden until a big reveal, because big reveals are how projects go wrong.

We need: content, or a decision to have us write it
Stage 05

Content and SEO

Titles, descriptions, headings, structured data, sitemap, robots, redirects from any old URLs, image alt text and compression. If you are replacing an existing site, this stage is what stops the traffic disappearing on launch day.

We need: access to the old site if there is one
Stage 06

Testing

Real devices, not just a resized window. Every form submitted, every link followed, every page checked for console errors, layout overflow and load time. Search Console and analytics connected before launch, not after.

You need: a final read-through
Stage 07

Launch and care

DNS, SSL, redirects, sitemap submitted. Then a handover with every login, and a fortnight of small tweaks included while you live with it. After that, take a care plan or call us when you need us.

Then: care plan, or nothing at all
What holds projects up

It is almost always content.

Design and build run to schedule. What stretches a two week project into two months is waiting on words and photographs. If writing is not your thing, say so at the quote stage and we will price the copy in.

  • Have your logo in a vector format if you can find it
  • Gather photos early, or budget for a photographer
  • Write in a plain document, not in the design
  • Decide who signs things off before the project starts
  • Get domain and DNS access sorted early, not on launch day
